OneofthefondestmemoriesIhaveofmyfatheriswhenhetookmeonafishingtrip.Iwasonlytenyearsoldatthetime,andhehadjustcomebackfromagruelingbusinesstrip.Insteadofresting,hetookmetothelakeandpatientlytaughtmehowtofish.Thatday,wecaughtseveralfish,butmoreimportantly,webondedoveroursharedpassionfortheoutdoors.Myfatherhasalwaysencouragedmetopursuemydreamsandnevergiveuponthem.WhenIwasinhighschool,Iwantedtobecomeawriter,butIlackedconfidenceinmyabilities.Myfather,however,believedinmeandencouragedmetowriteeveryday.Heevengavemeabeautifulleather-boundjournaltorecordmythoughtsandideas.Today,Iamapublishedauthor,andIowemuchofmysuccesstohisunwaveringsupport.AnotherthingthatIadmireaboutmyfatherishiskindnessandgenerosity.Hehasalwaysbeenwillingtohelpthoseinneed,whetheritbeafriend,familymember,orstranger.Hehastaughtmetheimportanceofgivingbacktosocietyandbeingempathetictowardsothers.Oneincidentthattrulyexemplifiesmyfather'saltruismoccurredwhenwewereonafamilyvacationinThailand.Wewerewalkingdownthestreetwhenwesawagroupofstraydogshuddledtogether,shiveringinthecold.Myfatherimmediatelywenttoanearbystoreandboughtseveralblanketstocoverthedogs.Healsofedthemandmadesuretheyhadenoughwatertodrink.Thissmallactofkindnesstouchedmyheartandmademerealizethepowerofcompassion.

Myfatherhasalsobeenagreatmentortome.Hehastaughtmemanylifelessonsthathaveshapedmycharacterandhelpedmenavigatethroughdifficulttimes.Onelessonthatstandsoutishisadviceontheimportanceofhumility.HeoncetoldmethatnomatterhowsuccessfulIbecome,Ishouldalwaysremainhumbleandgrounded.Thisadvicehasstayedwithmethroughoutmylife,andIbelieveithashelpedmebecomeabetterperson.Myfather'sloveforhisfamilyknowsnobounds.Hehasalwaysputourneedsbeforehisownandhassacrificedsomuchforus.Whenmymotherwasdiagnosedwithcancer,hetookcareofherwithutmostcareandtenderness.Hewouldsitwithherforhours,holdingherhandandcomfortingherwhenshewasinpain.Myfather'sselflessnessandloveforhisfamilywerefurtherhighlightedduringtheCOVID-19pandemic.Hemadesurethatwewereallsafeandprovideduswiththenecessaryresourcestostayhealthy.Healsodonatedmoneytoseveralcharitiesthatwerehelpingpeopleaffectedbythepandemic.Myfather'sheroismwasmostevidentwhenhesavedayoungboyfromdrowning.WewereonafamilyvacationinBaliwhenwesawaboystrugglinginthewater.Myfatherimmediatelyjumpedintothewaterandswamtowardstheboy.Hemanagedtopullhimoutofthewater,buthehimselfgotsweptawaybythestrongcurrent.Thankfully,anearbyfishermansawwhathadhappenedandrescuedmyfather.Althoughhesufferedminorinjuries,hewasmoreconcernedabouttheboy'swell-being.
