Overtime,Mark'smemorystartedgettingbetter.Hecouldrecallmoreeventsfromhispastandstartedfeelingmorealive.Herealizedthatrememberinghispasthelpedhimunderstandwhohewasandwherehecamefrom.Oneday,whilewalkingthroughthecity,Marksawanoldmanplayingtheguitaronthestreetcorner.Themanwaslostinhismusic,andMarksawasenseofcontentmentonhisface.Hewonderedifhehadeverfeltthatwaybefore.Markstartedtoplaytheguitar,andhefoundthatitwastherapeutic.Asheplayed,memoriescamebacktohim.Herememberedhisfatherteachinghimhowtoplay,andthetimestheyspentjammingtogether.Markstartedplayinginthepark,andsoonpeoplestartedgatheringaroundtolistentohim.Herealizedthathismusicwasconnectinghimwithpeople,anditmadehimfeelalive.

Oneday,whileplayinginthepark,Marksawalittlegirldancingtohismusic.Shewaslostinherownworld,swayingtotherhythm.Markrealizedthatitwasamemoryhehadforgotten.Hehadoncedancedwithhissisterinthesameway,carefreeandhappy.Markfeltgratefulforthememoryandrealizedthathehadbeengivenasecondchancetoremembertheimportantthingsinhislife.Heknewthatmemorieswerenotjustmomentsfrozenintimebutwereapartofwhohewas.AsMarkcontinuedtoplayhisguitar,hestartednoticingthesmallthingsaroundhim.Thecolorsoftheleaves,thesoundofthebirds,andthesmelloftheflowers.Herealizedthatbyrememberinghispast,hehadbecomemorepresentinthepresent.Mark'snewfoundsenseofawarenessmadehimappreciatelifemore.Hestartedmakingnewmemories,cherishingeverymoment,knowingthatsomedaytheytoowouldbecomeapartofhispast.

Oneday,whilesittingonthebenchinthepark,Marknoticedanoldmanwalkingtowardshim.Themanhadakindfaceandatwinkleinhiseye.HeintroducedhimselfasafriendofMark'sfather.ThemanstartedtellingMarkstoriesabouthisfather,eventsthatMarkhadneverheardbefore.Marklistenedintently,realizingthattherewasstillsomuchhedidn'tknowabouthisfather.Astheoldmanwalkedaway,Markrealizedthatmemoriesarenotjustaboutthepastbutalsoaboutthefuture.Heknewthatthememorieshemadenowwouldbepasseddowntohischildrenandgrandchildren,andtheywouldbecomeapartoftheirlives.Markstoodupfromthebench,feelinggratefulforthememorieshehad,andhopefulforthememoriesyettocome.Heknewthatrememberingwasthekeytoameaningfullifeandpromisedhimselfthathewouldneverforgetagain.
