Oneparticularincidentthatleftalastingimpactonmewaswhenmygrandfatherpassedaway.Itwasadifficulttimeforme,andIfeltlostandalone.ButthenIheardasongthatmygrandfatherusedtosingtomewhenIwasachild.Itwasasifhewaswithme,andIcouldfeelhispresencethroughthemusic.ItwasduringmomentslikethesethatIrealizedthetrueenchantmentofmusic.Itwasmorethanjustacollectionofsoundsorlyrics;itwasalanguagethatspoketomysoul.Musichadbecomeapartofmyidentity,andIcouldn'timaginemylifewithoutit.Ithadhelpedmethroughdifficulttimesandhadbroughtmejoyduringhappymoments.Itwasaconstantcompanionthathadneverletmedown.ButasmuchasIlovedmusic,Ialsorecognizeditspowertoevokestrongemotions.Thereweretimeswhenaparticularsongwouldbringbackmemoriesofpainfulmoments,andIwouldfindmyselfoverwhelmedwithsadness.

ItwasduringthesetimesthatIwouldturntomusictherapy.Thecalmingeffectofmusicwouldhelpmetorelaxandeasemyanxiety.Itwasasifthemusicwashealingmysoul.Butitwasn'tjustmewhorecognizedthepowerofmusic.Medicalprofessionalsalsoacknowledgedthetherapeuticeffectsofmusic.Itwasusedtohelppatientsdealwithdepression,anxiety,andevenchronicpain.ItwasduringthesetimesthatIrealizedtheuniversalappealofmusic.Itdidn'tmatterwhatlanguageonespokeorwhatculturetheybelongedto;musichadthepowertoconnectusall.AsIlookbackonmyjourneywithmusic,Irealizehowmuchithasshapedmeasaperson.Ithashelpedmetoconnectwithmyselfonadeeperlevelandhasgivenmeasenseofpurpose.

Butitwasn'tjustaboutme;itwasalsoaboutthepeopleIhadmetalongtheway.Themusicianswhohadinspiredme,theaudienceswhohadsharedtheirloveformusicwithme,andthefriendswhohadbecomefamily.ItwasduringthesemomentsthatIrealizedthetruemeaningofmusic.Itwasn'tjustaboutthenotesorthelyrics;itwasabouttheconnectionswemakeandthememorieswecreate.AsIsitherelisteningtomyfavoriteplaylist,Iamremindedofhowmusichasenchantedme.Ithasbeenajourneyfilledwithlove,joy,pain,andhealing.Butmostimportantly,ithasbeenajourneythathastouchedmysoul.Andasthelastnotesofthefinalsongfadeaway,Iamleftwithasenseofgratitudeforthegiftofmusic.Ithasenrichedmylifeinwaysthatwordscan'tdescribe,andIknowthatitwillcontinuetodosoforyearstocome.
